In response to an emergency motion, the United States District Court of Columbia has declined a request to compel the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to release information on President Bola Tinubu.
The motion, filed by Aaron Greenspan, sought the immediate release of the documents following the hearing of appeals by Nigerian Supreme Court from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi against Tinubu.
Greenspan argued that the documents needed to be presented at the Supreme Court and requested their release by October 31.
However, Judge Beryl A. Howell rejected Greenspan’s request, stating that he failed to satisfy the necessary conditions for an emergency hearing. The court determined that the privacy rights of President Tinubu outweighed any public issues Greenspan claimed.
Furthermore, in the civil suit numbered 23-1816, Greenspan also sought similar information and documents on Mueez Adegboyega Akande, who is reportedly deceased as of November 16, 2022.
Meanwhile, Tinubu’s lawyers have submitted a motion to the court, seeking permission to defend the President in the lawsuit.
