Todd White Biography

Todd White was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on May 21, 1975, as the son of Carol and Doug White. He grew up loving hockey, one of the most popular sports in his country, Canada. When he was much younger, he played ice hockey in the Central Canada Hockey League with the Kanata Valley Lasers. He played for Kanata Valley Lasers for two seasons, between 1991 and 1993, and managed to set a record for the highest Kanata Valley Lasers points in a single season.

While still in high school playing for the Kanata Valley Lasers, he was also teaching an ice hockey class. During one of his classes, the assistant coach of the Clarkson University ice hockey team then invited him to watch his team play. Shortly after his visit, White was recruited by the Clarkson Golden Knights, where he spent four years playing ice hockey. While attending Clarkson University, he was on a scholarship to play ice hockey. He also spent his four academic years at university, majoring in accounting and finance.

As a fresher, Todd White played 33 games and collected 22 points, assisting 12 times and scoring 10 goals. He was named among the ECAC’s best recruits. In his second year, he had 30 points, 13 goals and 17 assists in 35 games. In doing so, he became Clarkson Golden Knights’ second leading scorer.

As a junior, White played 38 games – the most games he played in a season while playing for the Clarkson Golden Knights. He assisted 43 times, his assist record for the Knights in a season, and scored 29 goals for a total of 72 points. He was honored as the Knights’ leading scorer by the ECAC All-Star and was also named ECAC Player of the Week three times and the team’s Most Improved Player.

In his senior year, Todd was named co-captain of the Knights. He played 37 times, scored 38 goals and had 36 assists, earning him 74 points, an average of 2 points per game. He finished the campaign as the nation’s top scorer, won the Knights Most Valuable Player award and was named ECAC Player of the Week three times. He was also named to the ECAC Championship All-Tournament Team.

Between 1993 and 1997, when he played for the Golden Knights, he played a total of 143 times and scored 198 points.

After graduating from Clarkson University, he sought to go pro. Things took a turn for the worse when he was not drafted in the 1997 National Draft. However, in the summer of 1997 his career took a turn when he was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Blackhawks. In his final season with the Chicago teams, he only played one game before being traded to the Philadelphia Fliers on January 26, 2000. During his time with the Fliers, he spent most of his time playing for Fliers’ IHL affiliate team, the Philadelphia Ghosts.

He was soon dropped by the Airmen and signed as a Free Agent with his hometown team, the Ottawa Senators, on July 12, 2000. He spent the next four seasons with the Senators before playing in Sweden for Södertälje SK. . He only played one game in Sweden and eventually returned to the NHL to join the Minnesota Wild. White spent two seasons with the Wilds, then signed with the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2007-08 season. His second season with the Thrashers was arguably the best season of his career. He was one of the lines that dominated the NHL that season. They called the attacking trio the “Little Russian White Line”. The others in the trio were Bryan Little and Ilya Kovalchuk.

In 2010, Todd was then traded to the New York Rangers. A year later, he ended his professional hockey career.
