BIOGRAPHY
Born in San Diego in 1995, to an American mother and a Pakistani father, Sophia Ali spent the first five years of her life in Dubai. Very early on, she practiced dancing and became interested in stage professions. When her parents returned to the United States and moved to Dallas, she began to land roles in television, film and advertising. At 14, she even hosted a show on Disney Channel!
Multiplying the castings, Sophia Ali took her first steps on television in two episodes of K Street created by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh . She continued by appearing, more or less furtively, in other series such as Shake It Up , CSI: Miami , Melissa & Joey , Faking It and Famous in Love . In the cinema we see her in Missionary Man , Walking with the Dead , Everybody Wants Some and Mono .
In 2017, her notoriety increased when she was asked to play Dr. Dahlia Qadri, a Muslim surgical intern who is as brilliant as she is hardworking, starting in season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy . The actress left the show during season 16, her character suffering a dismissal from Miranda Bailey. The following year, Sophia Ali took part in the game of death in the lucrative teen horror film Truth or Dare .
With her performances becoming more and more important, Sophia Ali plays one of the protagonists of The Wilds (2020), a teen drama where a group of teenage girls become the subjects of an experiment carried out on an island. That same year, she played the heroine of the romantic comedy India Sweets and Spices , a young woman who, returning home for a summer, discovers that her parents have always lied to her…
2020 is definitely a year decisive for Sophia Ali, since she was also chosen to join the cast of Uncharted , a blockbuster adapted from the famous video game franchise. More precisely, she plays Chloe Frazer, launched into the same treasure hunt as the heroes Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Overall on their side, however, she does not hesitate to go it alone when it comes to serving her own interests.
A very physical role, as the actress remembers:”Piloting a boat, sliding down the hood of a car in two different ways and in different conditions, climbing a fountain… To be honest, I was intimidated, because I obviously didn’t realize at first how aggressive Chloe was, until I started playing video games. Sometimes I would just close my eyes and hope I would land on my feet… And I did.”
Also in 2022, Sophia Ali takes her first steps in directing with the short film Mouthpiece, in which a seemingly harmless birthday dinner turns out to be more eventful than expected…
