BIOGRAPHY
Joseph “Nathan” Lane is a renowned American actor and writer, born on February 3, 1956, in New Jersey. Raised in a difficult environment, with an alcoholic father and a manic-depressive mother, Nathan found in humor a refuge to escape from reality, developing a very particular ability to laugh at the darkest moments. He obtained a scholarship to Saint Joseph’s University, in Philadelphia, to study drama but was forced to abandon it when he could not cover the expenses. He made some money by working in various occupations and moved to New York, a city where he spent difficult times until he began to stand out with his stand-up shows, which took him to Broadway in 1982 with the play Present Laughter . He conquered Broadway in the 1990s, with works such as On Borrowed Time, Guys and Dolls and A Funny Thing Happened of the Way to the Forum , among others. He made his film debut with the film Ironweed (1987) and, in his career, Nathan has been part of films such as La cage de las locas (1996), At first sight (1999), The producers (2005) and in series such as George and Martha (1999), The Good Wife (2012-2014), American Crime Story (2016), Modern Family (2010-2019) and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020), among several others.
