After her parents’ marriage broke up in 1990, her mother found love again in the arms of television executive Leslie Gillian. They married in 1994 and lived in New York. As a result, Paula took on Melissa and her siblings; Trisha, Elizabeth, Brian and Emily will stay in her new home. Her mother took her to auditions and luckily she was able to win a handful. Hart was unable to obtain a traditional education like most people. Her mother first enrolled her in a public school where she joined the Boy Scouts and played the flute. But she had to work with on-set tutors to complete her education.

Following a series of advertisements that widened with her popularity, Melissa became one of the most sought-after young stars of the 80s and she embraced racing without a shudder.
