Lauren Daigle – Biography
Lauren Ashley Daigle is an American contemporary artist born September 9, 1991 to Mark and Laura Daigle, in the town of Lafayette, Louisiana. Lauren is said to have a flair for songs as she listened to a lot of music as a child, especially zydeco, blues, Cajun, and gospel. Besides that, she loved to sing and constantly filled her house with the melody of her singing which caused her mother to call her “the music box”. However, the talented singer was diagnosed with a highly contagious disease; Glandular fever at age 15. So she quit public school and had to be homeschooled for about two years. Lauren Daigle considered the disease as a step in her musical journey, for the comfort of her home made her fall more in love with the songs. Before the illness, she was unsure what she wanted to do with her life but said the illness made her see her passions more clearly.
As for her higher education, LaurenDaigle went on to study Child and Family Sciences at Louisiana State University after going to a mission in Brazil and a charter school which she completed in six months instead of six months. During her studies, she attempted American Idol in 2010 and 2012, but was unsuccessful.
His musical career
While in college, Lauren joined her local church choir and started leading not too long from her early days. She was later featured on the North Point Church album ‘Inside Out’ where she composed the songs ‘Close’, ‘You Alone’ and ‘It is Well’. The album generated a lot of sales and Lauren was recognized by Centricity Music; who required her to attend a workshop and then asked to fill in for the singer of ‘Nothing is Wasted’ from Jason Gray’s only album, when he was ill when it was released. The label Centricity Music then signed her as a singer and she made her first solo “Light of the World” in 2013 from an album composed of many Centricity artists and songs, which allowed her to penetrate in the world of Christian music..
In 2015, Lauren Daigle released her debut album which she called “How Can It Be”. It was a big hit for her and it topped the Billboard Christian Albums Chart and lasted six weeks as No. 1. It was also in the top 20 on Billboard’s Top Albums chart for all genres. The other singles from this album also topped the Billboard Christian Airplay charts, including “First,” “Trust in You,” and “Come Alive (Dry Bones).”
Lauren Daigle also received an award for ‘How Can’t K-Love Awards’ title for Worship Song of the Year. In 2016, the album was shortlisted for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for the Grammy Awards. “How Can It Be” also earned him other awards, including Best New Artist for Song of the Year and Contemporary Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter- Composer of the Year and Recorded Contemporary Song of the Year, etc. With the huge success the album succeeded, she went on, made an upper class version of it and added additional songs to the album. In 2018, she released “You Say, Look Up Child,” which also became a major hit, topping the charts on Hot Christian Songs, as well as hot 100 and Rolling Stones.
Controversial
Recently in an interview, Lauren Daigle made controversial statements about her position on homosexuality. She said she was indifferent about it and wouldn’t call it a sin, because she’s not God. More so on the Domenick Nati Show, when asked how she felt about the criticism people made regarding her performance on famed gay celebrity, Ellen DeGeneres’ series, she let it be known that being Ellen was Ellen’s personal choice don’t make her a bad person.
