Governor Adeleke: Osun State is committed to retaining health workers through incentives and allowances

In an official inauguration at the Osun Health Insurance Scheme Office Complex in Abere, Osogbo, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State disclosed his administration’s efforts in creating a conducive environment to retain health professionals in the state, aiming to counteract the “Japa syndrome”.

Adeleke emphasized, “Our government has approved the full payment of hazard allowances to all our health staff as approved by the Federal Government. We also intend to replace all healthcare workers that have left with new ones with improved packages, adequately appropriated for in the 2024 budget.”

He also outlined plans for the renovation of all 332 focal primary health centres and some comprehensive health centres in the state, highlighting the importance of the OHIS office complex for the administration of health insurance policies to enhance the well-being of Osun citizens.

The governor stressed, “Our government recognizes the importance of health insurance and intends to reduce or even eliminate out-of-pocket payment for treatment in the hospitals. That is the reason for making it compulsory for all political office holders and civil servants to enroll in the Osun Health Insurance Scheme, while also urging the informal sector to key into the programme.”

Prior to the inauguration, Adeleke met with journalists in the state to express gratitude for their support and announce his return after vacation. The governor also conducted an inspection of the ongoing road dualisation at Oke-Fia Axis in Osogbo, the state capital, accompanied by journalists.
