“Freeway” Rick Ross has an estimated net worth of $3 Million
“Freeway” Rick Ross – A Brief Biography
Richard Donnell Ross, widely known as “Freeway” Rick Ross, was born on 26 January 1960, in Troup, Texas, USA. He is recognized for his involvement in drug trafficking during the 80s, although he is also an author and businessman.
Reportedly, Rick Ross’s net worth was estimated to be over $3 million in early 2016. He has previously claimed that his net worth once amounted to over $600 million during the peak of his drug empire, which was earning around $3 million per day. His substantial wealth accumulation is largely attributed to his successful drug trade.
“Freeway” Rick Ross – Financial Success
Despite attending Susan Miller Dorsey High School and demonstrating talent in tennis, Ross struggled with illiteracy and failed to secure a college sports scholarship. He later attended Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he had his initial encounter with cocaine as a teenager. This eventually led him to become a drug dealer.
His association with Nicaraguan refugees, Oscar Danilo Blandón and Norwin Meneses Cantarero, enabled him to procure cocaine at cheaper rates. His primary clientele included Los Angeles street gangs, particularly the Bloods and Crips, and he discreetly invested his earnings to conceal his illicit activities from his mother.
Expanding his operations, Ross hired more people and expanded his drug empire beyond Los Angeles to various other regions, including Texas, New Orleans, Oklahoma, Indiana, North and South Carolina, Seattle, and Baltimore. However, his involvement in the drug trade led to legal troubles, and he was charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine. Ultimately, he was sentenced to life imprisonment, which was later reduced to 20 years, and he was released in 2009.
In 2014, Rick Ross co-authored an autobiographical book titled “Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography” with journalist Cathy Scott, shedding light on his life story. His experiences have been the subject of several films and documentaries, including “American Drug War: The Last White Hope” and BET’s “American Gangster” series. He also appeared in the movie “Kill the Messenger” and has been a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan show.
Not much is publicly known about Rick Ross’s personal life, but he is reported to have a son, Bricen, born in 2011, and a daughter, Jordan, born in 2013. His nickname “Freeway” is derived from the properties he owned near the Los Angeles Harbor Freeway. Additionally, he was embroiled in a legal dispute with the rapper Rick Ross, who was sued for using his name, although the court ruled in favor of the rapper.
