On March 28, 1931, he was born in Strasburg, North Dakota, as the son of John and Regina (Schumacher) Reis. His childhood was spent in Strasburg. As one of seven children who were raised on the family farm, he quickly realized the importance of perseverance and the benefits it could bring. Ernie left his family and hometown in September of 1953 to enlist in the United States Army to serve his country as a mechanic in the Korean War.
He arrived back in the country in June of 1955, and on September 23, 1957, he wed Luvina Kiefer in a ceremony that took place at St. Aloysius Church. They were blessed with five children by the hand of God. After some time, the family would relocate to Bismarck, North Dakota, where Ernie would work as a city mechanic for a total of 28 years before calling it quits.
Throughout his entire life, you might frequently find him in his garage fixing things like automobiles, lawnmowers, and snow blowers. Because he was such a sweet and compassionate man, his family adored him very much. They were drawn to him by the twinkle in his eyes, the warm grin on his face, and the wide arms that were always ready to give them a hug.
Ernie is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Luvina; his children David (Nancy) Reis, Frank (Tammy), Daniel (Lori), Cynthia (Truman) Lund, and Sandra (Jamie) Gimbel; 14 granddaughters; 12 great-grandchildren; and his sister Helen (Irvin) Senger. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Irvin Senger. His parents and brothers Ed, Herman, John, Leo, and Gerald Reis all passed away before he did. Donations to the Veterans Cemetery or the charity of your choosing can be donated in lieu of traditional floral tributes.
