James Maddison, the midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has caught the attention of Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, who admitted to being “worried” about him ahead of their upcoming Premier League match on Saturday.
Liverpool is scheduled to face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for a Premier League fixture this weekend.
In anticipation of the game, Carragher expressed his concerns about Liverpool’s lack of a holding midfielder.
It should be noted that Jordan Henderson, a holding midfielder, left Anfield this summer to join the Saudi Pro League, while Thiago Alcantara is currently sidelined due to a hip injury.
“He [Maddison] has been brilliant, and listen, I’m slightly concerned about him on Saturday because Liverpool still doesn’t have a dedicated holding midfielder. They have Alexis Mac Allister playing in that position, but it’s not his natural role,” expressed Carragher on The Boot Room, quoting his statement made on the An Echo To Glory podcast.
“Therefore, I believe Liverpool will need to keep a close eye on him, whether they assign someone else to that position or have two men covering it. Maddison’s performances have been outstanding this season, so you need to have a solid plan to counter him,” Carragher added.
