You can unfriend or block someone on Facebook if you don't want to interact with them. Without also blocking them on Messenger, you cannot block someone on Facebook. If you ban someone on Facebook, Messenger will also immediately block them. They are unable to chat with you through Facebook Chat or the Messenger app. No messages from blocked accounts will ever reach you.
